Policy for personal data protection

Management of the website with reference to the treatment of users’ personal data.

Why this statement

This statement is written to give information to users who interact with the Portal System of the Dipartimento di Informatica of the Università degli Studi dell'Aquila using the address:

http://www.eng.unibo.it/

which corresponds to the front page of the Department’s official Portal. This information is given in accordance with art 13 of Legislative Decree no. 96/2003 – Code on personal data protection.

This statement is valid only for all the websites of the "Department Portal System" and not for any other website users may access through the links found on the University websites.  The presence of this statement is a guarantee that the user is in the "Portal System" of the Dipartimento di Informatica of the Università degli Studi dell'Aquila.

The statement is also in line with the Recommendation no. 2/2001, which the European authorities for personal data protection, part of the Group established under art. 29 of directive no. 95/46/EC, adopted on 17 May 2001 to identify some of the minimum requirements for the collection of personal data online and in particular as regards the methods, terms and nature of the information that the data controllers must supply to users when they connect to the web pages, whatever the reason for the connection.

Site of data treatment

The treatment of data related to web services of the websites of the Portal System is carried out at the above mentioned headquarters of the Dipartimento di Informatica. Details of the persons responsible for said administrative structures can be found on the website  http://www.di.univaq.it.

Personal data supplied by users requesting information material shall only be used to carry out the service requested and shall only be communicated to third parties if necessary for that purpose.  For purposes connected to the University’s institutional activities personal data may be communicated outside the university to other public institutions (for example the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Regional Body for University Student Financial Support, the Ministry of Finance) that pay research funds and/or study grants or that promote studies, research, projects for the development of the university and of student financial support services. In addition, personal data shall be supplied to the banking institute that, in agreement with the University, deals with the receipt of the payments of university contributions and fees.

Furthermore personal data shall be communicated by the University to external bodies and associations during a student's university career and after his/her degree, for initiatives related to vocational guidance, entry into the working world and postgraduate training activities.

Type of data treated

1) Navigation data

When operating, the computer systems and software procedures necessary for the Portal System to operate correctly collect some personal data that is implicitly transmitted by the use of the Internet communication protocols or is used to improve the quality of the service offered.

This information is not collected in order to be associated with identified interested parties, however in virtue of its nature it may lead to the identification of the user through data processing and association.

This category of data includes IP addresses or domain names of the computers used by the users to connect to the website, the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) addresses of the resources required, the method used to send a request to the server, the size of the file obtained in reply, the numeric code that indicates the state of the reply given by the server (sent, error, etc.) and other parameters relating to the user’s operating system and data processing environment.

This data shall only be used for the purpose of obtaining anonymous statistical information on the use of the website and to control that it is operating correctly. This data is deleted periodically.  Data may be used to ascertain responsibility in the case of hypothetical data processing crimes to the detriment of the Portal system or third parties.

2) Data supplied voluntarily by the user

Student personal data acquired during enrolment or registration or through any other specific collection methods shall only be used to carry out university institutional activities, within the limits established by law and by the regulations, in respect of the general principles of transparency, correctness and privacy.

The optional, explicit and voluntary sending of e-mails to the addresses indicated on this portal entails the acquisition of the sender's address, which is necessary in order to answer the request, as well as any other personal data included in the message.  However we guarantee that this treatment shall comply with the principles of transparency, correctness, lawfulness and privacy protection as indicated in legislative decree 196/03.

Brief privacy statements will be progressively written or displayed on website pages offering special services on request.

The Portal System website make use of the following set of cookies:

Anonymous visitor cookies:


1) Session cookies: no user personal data is purposely acquired by the website.
2) Permanent cookies: no user personal data is purposely acquired by the website.

Registered visitor cookies:


1) Session cookie: this cookie is used only for the purpose of accessing and using the services in the Reserved Area of the Portal and to navigate the websites maintaining authentication.  The use of these cookies avoids the use of other data processing techniques that may prejudice the user’s navigation privacy.  These cookies are also used to improve the quality of the service offered.  Any data collected shall be used only for institutional purposes in an anonymous and aggregated form.

Providing data is optional

Apart from what has been mentioned above concerning browsing data, the user is free to choose whether or not to supply the personal data requested in the forms that can be found on the Portal System websites or indicated by the University to request information, during other communications or to access specific services.

If the user does not rpovide the data requested, this may mean that it will not be possible for the University to satisfy his/her requests.

How the data is treated

Data is treated exclusively for institutional purposes using computerised instruments and for the length of time strictly necessary to achieve the objective for which it is collected.

Specific security measures are followed to avoid the loss of data, unlawful or incorrect use of data and unauthorized access.

Rights of interested parties

In accordance with article 7 of legislative decree no. 196/2003, the person to whom the personal data refers has the right to:

  • obtain confirmation of the existence or  non-existence of data concerning him/her, and receive an intelligible communication of said data, even if it has not yet been registered.
  • obtain information on:
    a) the source of the personal data;
    b) purpose and method of treatment;
    c) logic applied in the event of treatment using electronic equipment;
    d) details of the data handler, mangers and representative appointed in accordance with article 5 paragraph 2;
    e) subjects or categories of subjects to which personal data may be sent or that may become acquainted with the data in virtue of their capacity as representative appointed for that territory by the State, or managers or persons responsible for said task.
  • to obtain:
    a) an update, modification or when interested, completion of the data;
    b) the deletion, transformation into anonymous form, or to have the data blocked if handled unlawfully, including data that does not need to be stored for the purposes for which the data was collected or subsequently treated;
    c) a declaration stating that the persons to which the data is communicated or divulged are aware of the operations referred to in (a) ad (b), including the content, except in the case in which it is not possible to fulfil said obligation or if this entails an involvement of means that is clearly disproportionate to the right protected.
  • to be opposed, totally or partially:
    a) for legitimate reasons, to the handling of his/her personal data, despite the fact it is relevant to the purpose of the collection;
    b) to the treatment of his/her personal data for the purpose of sending advertising material or direct sales or to its use for market research or commercial purposes.
